GCYSA Severe Weather & Lightning Policy
We follow U.S. Soccer’s safety guidelines, which are very clear:
⚡ If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, play is immediately stopped.
From that point:
- All players, coaches, and spectators must leave the field and seek proper shelter (vehicles or the pavilion).
- Play will not resume until at least 30 minutes have passed since the last lightning strike or thunder.
- Any additional lightning or thunder will reset the 30-minute clock.
This policy is non-negotiable and is in place to protect the safety of everyone involved.
Important Reminders
- Sitting under trees or remaining near the field is not safe.
- Be prepared to move quickly to your vehicle or the pavilion if necessary.
- Coaches should notify parents immediately via text or team communication apps.
- Board members, coaches, and referees will make the final decision on delays or cancellations of practices and games.
-
If severe weather is expected on practice or game days, please monitor your
email, team communication apps, and
GCYSA Facebook page
for potential delays or cancellations.
We understand delays can be inconvenient, but safety will always come first.
