Required Clearances

The PA Child Protective Services Law changed effective January 1, 2015.  All background checks must be completed using the provider designated by Pennsylvania per the requirements of the law.  Individuals fall into two categories…paid and volunteer…and each has its own set of required clearances. 

Volunteers must provide the following:

  -State Police Criminal Record Check (provided free to volunteers)
  -PA Child Abuse History Clearance  (provided free to volunteers)
  -if PA resident for at least the past 10 years…a complete and notarized Volunteer affidavit
  -if PA resident for less than the past 10 years…FBI Criminal Background Check (requires purchase of clearance). The link below  will take you to the page managed by Identogo for the Commonwealth of PA to help individuals attain an FBI clearance. The service code to apply for volunteer fingerprinting is 1KG6ZJ. The approximate cost will be $21.35.  
 

Individuals who are paid to oversee the children/have direct contact with children must provide the following:

**PA's revised Child Protective Services law requires individuals required to have clearances to renew their clearances every five (5) years.

REQUIRED SafeSport Training

In addition to the above clearances, all coaches must complete SafeSport Training annually.  The training is free and available online. 
The training is a 
comprehensive 90-minute overview of facts, principles, and strategies to help you provide safe and positive sport environments. Units include: 
-
Sexual Misconduct Awareness and Education
-
Mandatory Reporting
-Physical and Emotional Misconduct (including bullying, hazing, and harassment)

The re-certification takes approximately 15-20 minutes and covers the following:
-Recognizing and Reporting Misconduct
-Creating a Positive Sport Environment

To access SafeSport Training:
1.  C
lick Login on the home page at SafeSportTrained.org
2.  Enter your email address in the Username box
3.  
Enter your password in the Password box.  If you do not know your password, click Forgot Password.  In the new window, enter your email address in either the Username box or the Email Address box and click Reset Password.
