GCYSA is always looking for dedicated youths and adults to referee games at both the Travel level and U10 In-house. Becoming a referee has many benefits. It will help you learn more about the game of soccer. It also helps build confidence and develop character. Plus it will teach one how to deal with adversity, quick decision making, teamwork, responsibility, and attention to details. Yes we pay referees for their service too.

This page is being designed to be a resource for people for current and potential GCYSA referees. Any news that is important will be posted. Also, plans to add the referee schedule and a question and answer section are in the works. Please check back often to keep up with GCYSA referee information. Requirements

The minimum age for being a referee in GCYSA is 14. This is due to Pennsylvania regulations on how old you must be to receive payment for services. All referees must complete a short course on being a referee in PA West. The schedule for referees will be determined by the Assignor, and all referees will be required to work all levels of games including U10 In House.

Younng referees will start out at Grade 9. Once a referee has completed 4 seasons (Spring and Fall count as seperate seasons), he or she will be able to move to Grade 8. Adult referees start at Grade 8.

Youth Referee of the Year Award

Each year, GCYSA will pick both a male and a female 18 or under for the Youth Referee of the Year Award. This will come with a monetary award as well as the recognition. These two youths will then be nominated for the PA West Referee of the Year. The winners of this award will be posted on our homepage.
